If you’re like me you have probably been searching for a decent vegan keto cookbook! And when I say decent, I mean one that isn’t loaded with tofu, errors, cheese and written by people who’ve never followed a vegan keto lifestyle.

Electrolytes On A Keto Diet
Firstly, what are electrolytes and why are electrolytes on a keto diet so important.
- Electrolytes are salts which exist in nature in the form of minerals (ionic solution)
- Electrolytes are responsible for keeping the body properly hydrated so the muscles and nerves can function properly.
It’s important to take in adequate amounts of minerals as the body is mostly composed of water.
The Long Term Effects Of A Ketogenic Diet
There aren’t many studies around about the long term effects of a ketogenic diet. Your unique body chemistry dictates how you’ll respond to eating this way.
If you’re reading this, you’ll probably already know what a ketogenic diet is but I’ll copy here a very simple explanation from Marcelo Campus MD
In essence, it is a diet that causes the body to release ketones into the bloodstream. Most cells prefer to use blood sugar. This comes from carbohydrates, as the body’s main source of energy. In the absence of circulating blood sugar from food, we start breaking down stored fat into molecules called ketone bodies. This process is called ketosis. Once you reach ketosis, most cells will use ketone bodies to generate energy until we start eating carbohydrates again.
Hot Air Fryers
Now I know it doesn’t appear as if hot air fryers go with a high-fat diet, but yes, they do!
I recently purchased the Tefal Actifry Fryer and have to say I LOVE it, so much so, I rarely use my oven these days. I purchased the 2-1 kind because I liked the idea of having the 2 levels to cook complete meals easily. The UK and US models vary slightly in looks, but not in function so this Actifry review applies to both.
Low Carb Protein Bars
Low carb protein bars can be a useful addition to any keto diet, especially if you travel or need lunches for work. It can be challenging on a vegan keto diet, but, this is where Pegan protein bars come in!
With all the debate going on about vegans and protein, these bars go some way to bridging that gap. (Check out this article for guidelines).
This is the manufacturer’s description:
Vegan Low Carb Falafels
Lupini beans make fabulous vegan low carb falafels! Here in the UK, pre-prepared Lupini beans are almost impossible to buy so you have to prepare your own using dried beans. This can take anything from 8 to 14 days (I know I know, but it’s worth it!)
I followed this guide here, there is NO mistaking the bitter taste when they’re not ready to use! If you’re in the US then pre-packed lupini beans are readily available (lucky you!).
How To Get Started On A Vegan Keto Diet
So you’ve made the decision to change your lifestyle and want to know how to get started on a vegan keto diet. The main thing to remember is everyone is DIFFERENT!
This is a basic starting point if you’re new to vegan keto. If you’re already vegan you’ll find the transition easier, if you’re doing cold turkey (pardon the pun!) then it can be more challenging.
If you’re struggling, send us a message and we’ll help
Our bodies react differently so your experience might be different from mine. However, there are some basic rules that apply to everyone.
Low Carb Vegan Pancakes
These low carb vegan pancakes are my favorite breakfast. If you miss bread and toast, this is a great alternative at only 0.7 per serve!
You can play around with the recipe, just adjust the water content to suit.
Sometimes I’ll add Indian spices and have with a vegan keto curry.
Another nice variation is grinding up some pecans into a fine flour and adding a tablespoon. Add nutmeg, cinnamon and a bit of sweetener of your choice if you need it. I find the pecan flour makes them sweet enough.
Ketogenic Lifestyle
It’s a while since I posted an update so I thought it was time for an update on my vegan Ketogenic lifestyle!
And a lifestyle it has become for me, I can’t imagine going back to my pre-vegan keto diet.
So, what’s been happening on my vegan keto journey?
Well, I went to Australia for a month but, had to go a few days late as I picked up a nasty tummy bug from my Grandaughter. vomiting on a grand scale and enforced fasting!
Eating keto foods was a challenge during the journey so I had to do a bit of a “carb up”. A small amount of rice and chickpea curry was the offering on board the flight. I chose a Vegan Jain meal, which is strict vegan and no root veg, it was the best I could do.
I purchased some mixed nuts to take with me and the Emirates lounge had mixed nuts at their food counters. There were also olives, mixed salad and a jug of olive oil. I did get some strange looks when I poured oil over everything then put some in my coffee!
On my arrival at my daughter house, I took a blood ketone reading, still in ketosis, so not bad all things considered.
Vegan Keto Journey Update
Time for a vegan keto journey update, it’s been a few weeks since my last one, nearly a month!
I’ve been so busy with all the extra energy I have the time has passed very quickly.
One of the problems people have when they first start is a menu with recipes. With the holiday season fast approaching I’ve been working hard on a vegan keto festive menu.
The menu is full of goodies and I think there are a few recipes that non-keto vegans will love too.
It includes a Macadamia Savory Nut Roast, Lemon Shortbread with Chocolate Mousse, Avocado with Curried Brazil Nut stuffing, Truffles (yes, you heard right!), to name but a few.
